The Witton Feast - The Events and Happenings

Saturday 27th - Sunday 28th August 2011

The Feast is a fun weekend based around the old tradition of the Burning of Bartle

There are events and 'happenings' over the whole weekend, the details of which are below:

Saturday 27th August 2011
Cottage Show
09:00 - 10:30Entries are accepted for the show in the village hall. The doors are closed to entries at 10:30
13:00The village hall doors are opened to the public for viewing of entries.
15:30Presentation to winners
Afternoon Teas
14:00 - 16:00tea/coffee/scones will be served in the Fox & Hounds pub, Main Street, West Witton
Witton Fell Race
17:30 - 18:00Race registration takes place in the playing field to the East end of the village
18:00The race starts at the bottom of Kagram (to the West of the village), ending back in the playing fields. Please refer to the Witton Fell Race site for full details.
Bartle Parade
21:00The parade of Bartle begins at the Kagram (the west end of the village). The parade continues down the village eastwards with an effigy of Bartle. Every few yards they stop and recite the doggerel.
Often (not as much as they'd like) the villagers bring out drinks for those carrying Bartle. Towards the bottom of the village they turn into Grassgill and stop after the houses on the left where they set fire to the effigy. Normal behaviour is to repair to the Fox & Hounds after Bartle goes out.
Sunday 28th August 2011
12:00 onwardsSunday's activities take place on the West Witton playing field which has parking/pavilion with toilet facilities for both able and disabled and seating and tables.
There will be music, children's fancy dress, sports, dog show, Punch & Judy, face painting, Chuckles the Clown, birds of prey displays and other attractions.
There will be side stalls: tombola, bran tub, quoits, wallops, churn game, a trampoline, bungee game, bouncy castle, beat the goalie, book stalls, cards, monopoly, egg throwing, BBQ and other refreshments.
